Public Speaking for Fire Service Personnel is an interactive program designed to prepare students to succeed in Fire Service Instructor I, Fire and Life Safety Educator I and other public speaking situations in the fire service.
The ability to speak confidently and effectively to an audience is a foundation skill necessary in all walks of life. This is especially true in the fire service where effective leadership is measured by the ability to train, direct and influence others.
Participants in the Public Speaking for Fire Personnel program will develop and enhance skills in the following areas: Overcoming and managing ‘butterflies’, Finding one’s own style, establishing a stage presence, Constructing effective and memorable presentations and Managing an audience.
Instructor: Timothy Pley knows what it takes to overcome the initial challenges to being an effective public speaker. A graduate of the Toastmasters International program, Tim has overcome the limitations imposed by the fear of public speaking and now leads others through the same journey.
Tim’s work as a Deputy Fire Chief also gives him a depth of experience in the daily and weekly challenges faced by fire service personnel in leading, directing and training firefighters and the general public.
